For more than thirty-five years, I painted and drew whatever refused to leave my head alone.

Family. Women. Musicians. Businessmen. Prison cells. War. Grief. Bad decisions. Fish. Drunks. A saxophone player with an enormous stomach.

The subjects changed because my life changed.

Art Collection (1980–2015) brings together works created across several decades and several cities, from my student years in St. Louis through Washington, Chicago, San Francisco, Miami, and Kyiv.

Some pieces are personal portraits. Others are social commentary, abstractions, caricatures, or attempts to make sense of events that made considerably less sense in real life.

The images are accompanied by my own notes explaining where the works came from and, occasionally, what I was thinking when I made them. I cannot promise that the explanations make the paintings more respectable. They do, however, make them more personal.

This is not simply a portfolio arranged by date. It is a visual record of thirty-five years of one life—the people I loved, the things I lost, the absurdities I noticed, and the ideas I was unable to leave alone.
